What is the Curacy all about?
The Curacy at New Song Church is intended to be a three-year comprehensive and immersive ministry training program, which will build up a young assisting pastor (a Curate) in Gospel ministry as well as advance New Song’s mission through focus on Outreach and Family Ministry. Our parish leadership believes that investing in our Outreach and Family Ministry is essential to realize our desired church growth, and that investing in a ministry staff position is the best possible investment we could make in advancing our Gospel mission in our community.
The cost of the curacy is split three ways between New Song, the Anglican Network in Canada, and the Curate’s own ministry fundraising. This “Partnered Curacy” model is being developed for wider implementation across our denomination.
Meet our Curate: Matt Usherwood
Matt has faithfully served as a ministry intern at Church of the Messiah in Ottawa while completing his theological studies at Ryle College. Previous to his vocational ministry and studies, Matt worked as a freelance photojournalist for many years. Matt is a passionate and gifted bible-teacher, evangelist, and leader. His wife Amy is a talented graphic designer, accomplished artist, singer, songwriter and guitar luthier. We think they’re going to be a great fit among our church family!
You’ll have the opportunity to meet Matt in person when he comes to preach at New Song on June 25. He officially begins his ministry here at New Song at the end of August, in time for our Fall ministry kick off.
